Counselor's Corner

The Early Childhood Center’s counseling program is a part of the total school program. It is child-centered and encourages a student’s social, emotional, and personal growth. The counselor works with students, parents, and teachers to help students maximize their potential. Children learn best when they feel good about themselves and their relationships with others. Children who understand their feelings are better able to control their behavior. All children deserve to have counseling and guidance services available to them, not just those in a crisis situation.

The guidance counselor conducts class lessons, counsels individual students, conducts small groups, and consults with parents, teachers, and other professionals. Classroom guidance lessons support character education traits of respect, responsibility, acceptance, honesty, kindness, and cooperation. Students are seen by the counselor upon parental request, student request, or through referral by administration, teacher, or other school staff.

Counseling is short-term, voluntary, and confidential. Parental permission is obtained prior to extended individual or group counseling. Group counseling topics include, but are not limited to, building self-esteem, conflict management, social skills, and new changes/adjustments at home or school. The counselor offers crisis counseling to assist students in emergencies and provides parenting information.

Message from the Counselor

Dear Parents,

As your child’s school counselor, I would like to welcome your child to the Early Childhood Center.

The guidance and counseling curriculum is essential because it addresses the intellectual, emotional, social, and psychological needs of the student. My goal is to help students as they encounter these needs and other important learning and life issues. Also, I will work with students to help them use effective problem solving skills and to express feelings and concerns.

Each month throughout the school year, I will teach guidance activities/lessons to each class that helps students to achieve a better understanding of themselves and others. These lessons are presented to promote positive educational, personal, and social development so your child will be able to manage change and become lifelong learners.

I encourage you to contact me regarding any concerns you or your child may have. Please feel free to come by or call 732-3670 ext.7030. Together we hope to create a foundation of future success and achievement by making your child’s time here enriching and rewarding.

Mrs. Esther Brown
