Program Ojectives and Goals

 

 

            The program objectives of the Department of Food Service are to provide nutritious, inexpensive meals to students, while maintaining fiscal accountability, maximizing participation, and serving as an education resource for the school community.  The following goals have been set to support these objectives.

 

Program Goals:

 

  1. View the student as a retail customer, and ensure that all menu planning, purchasing, and marketing efforts are directed toward meeting student needs.
  2. Purchase the highest quality food possible within a limited budget, while incorporating new menu ideas obtained through customer and employee feedback, networking, and vendor sources.
  3. Recruit, retain, and train the highest quality personnel available, fostering within them an attitude of cooperation and partnership within the school environment and an expectation of continual improvement in their school operation.
  4. Develop empowered, self-directed managers who can maintain stable, productive teams in their kitchens and follow all departmental regulations and guidelines.
  5. Ensure that all sanitation practices are known and followed.
  6. Make managerial and budgetary decisions that maximize the department’s resources and have maximum positive impact on the students.
  7. Develop through an evaluation process with individual managers and school staff, realistic, attainable, and appropriate goals for improvement that benefit the school operation as well as the employees’ professional growth.
  8. Continually evaluate all in-house accounting practices to ensure the methods used are accurate and efficient, and use the data generated to make responsible decisions affecting the program’s operation.
  9. Provide educational material and resources to classroom teachers via print and the school’s website.
