• RepMO Return to Learn

    On July 20, 2020 the Republic School District distributed a draft of our RepMO Return to Learn plan. CLICK HERE for details. As a reminder, this plan consisted of three phases. During phase 1 the RepMO Return to Learn plan provides three different learning opportunities for families and implements health-related protocols to help keep students and employees healthy while at school. The below information outlines virtual learning and hybrid learning.

     

    Students who would like to participate in virtual or hybrid learning must commit to doing so by 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5. To enroll, parents/guardians must contact your child's school to go through the correct process by this date and time. If we do not hear from families for this purpose, we will assume your student will participate in seated instruction.

    Hybrid Learning Option

    This option is available to 6th-12th grade students on an individual basis during phase 1. Students can individually be enrolled in seated classes every day and at the same time take virtual classes through Launch. For example, a student might take two seated classes at RHS every day and also four Launch virtual classes.

     

    Virtual Learning Option

    In compliance with Section 161.670, RSMo,  Republic R-III School District allows students to access virtual learning opportunities when it is determined to be in the best educational interest of the student. The district’s preferred provider for virtual learning is the MOCAP approved LAUNCH program (www.fueledbylaunch.com). 

     

    Launch is a virtual academy that offers students quality online learning options. Launch's online courses are taught by highly qualified Missouri certified teachers. The Launch courses meet student's individual needs while providing fresh options for families looking to expand their children's learning opportunities.

     

    Below are a few aspects of Launch:

     

    • Elementary courses are offered only as a complete set which includes six hours of daily teacher-supported programming. Individual courses are not offered. This includes: English Language Arts, math, science, social studies, PE, information literacy, coding, music and art. Virtual class meetings, small groups and individual connections are available through Launch. Families should plan on six hours of instruction daily.
    • Students have flexibility in pacing. 
    • Students will receive a grade upon completion of the course.

     

    Online learning is a unique opportunity that is not for everyone. If you are interested in this for your student, the Republic R-III School District will walk you through the steps to determine if taking an online course would best meet the needs of your student. Successful candidates for online learning are receiving instruction by teachers certified in the State of Missouri and are typically students who:

     

    • Are self-motivated and can work independently with little direction
    • Frequently check email and are comfortable using CANVAS and other technology
    • Consistently meet deadlines and successfully pass all seated courses
    • Can advocate for themselves and ask for assistance if they are having difficulty with a course
    • Possess solid communication skills needed to interact appropriately with classmates and teachers in an online setting
    • Have obtained a proficient or advanced lexile status with regard to grade level reading expectations

Also, please contact your child's school for further information or to enroll in virtual learning or hybrid learning. This needs to be completed by 3:00 p.m. on August 5.  

     

     

     

    Additional virtual learning details can be found below: 

     

    1) The student must be enrolled in Republic School District as a full-time student OR the student must have been enrolled in a public school as a full-time student the semester prior to requesting virtual coursework. Students must meet and maintain all pertinent residency requirements of the district. Virtual course enrollment will only occur until the 5th academic day of the spring and fall semesters. 

     

    2) Acceptance into the virtual program for students with an IEP or 504 will primarily be based upon the decision of the IEP/504 team as they determine the best educational placement for the individual student.

     

    3) Students typically start with one online course. If that course is successfully completed, students may take additional online courses. Student performance will be reviewed each semester. Students who fail one online course will not be allowed to take another one in subsequent semesters.

     

    4) Students may work on virtual coursework on campus or off, but may not travel back and forth throughout the day. On campus, students will have a designated classroom for their work and must report to the classroom in the same manner they would report to any seated class. Students working from home must be able to access reliable internet services; wi-fi is not provided by the district.

     

    5) The district is not required to provide students access to or pay for courses beyond the equivalent of full-time enrollment. The district will pay the cost of a virtual course ONLY if the district has first approved the student’s enrollment in the course.. Even if a student or his or her parents/guardians pay the costs for a virtual course, the student or parents/guardians should meet with the principal or designee prior to enrollment to ensure that the course is consistent with the student's academic and personal goals.

     

    6) Students are required to take state-required MAP or EOC examinations administered by the district regardless of whether the course for which the examination is required was taken virtually or in the traditional classroom.

     

    7) Students participating in online courses ARE NOT exempt from any finals regardless of grades or attendance, as RHS attendance incentives do not pertain to online courses. Furthermore, approved requests to take early finals at RHS will not apply to online courses. Many online courses require a seated final exam which is proctored by the online learning coordinator at RHS. RHS students will not receive a CANVAS course invite as they typically would. Additionally, students/parents will not see online course grades listed on RHS progress reports. Students and parents can log into their separate online learning accounts at any time to view course progress.


    8) Students taking courses virtually are subject to district policies, procedures and rules applicable to students enrolled in traditional courses including, but not limited to, the district's discipline code and prohibitions on academic dishonesty, discrimination, harassment, bullying and cyberbullying.
