Elementary Summer School: Summer SLAMWhat's the focus of Summer SLAM?The elementary summer school program, SLAM 2018 (Summer Learning And More) is going to center around STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) activities! STEAM education encourages kids to ask questions, solve real world problems, think creatively and be innovative. We are also very excited about offering a STEAM themed class as a specials class for all of our SLAM students! Current assistant principal at Sweeny Elementary, Chris Lockmiller will be the Elementary Summer School Principal, and Mrs. Leanne Gove who is the assistant principal at Lyon Elementary will serve as the assistant. We are looking forward to a summer full of leadership development and STEAM related learning!What's the schedule for Summer SLAM?Summer school for elementary students will begin on May 29th and end on June 22nd. School is in session each day, Monday through Friday. Summer SLAM time is 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Doors will open at 7:45 a.m. To ensure a smooth pick-up process, we are asking that adults picking up Kindergarten students arrive at 2:40 p.m., park and come in the building to pick up their Kindergarten student and any siblings. Additional information on drop off and pick-up is below.Who can attend Summer SLAM?SLAM will be available for students entering Kindergarten in the fall of 2018 through current 4th graders. Current 5th graders will attend summer school at Republic Middle School (see below). For Summer SLAM, all students will be enrolled in the grade level they will attend for the 2018-2019 school year.Where is Summer SLAM located?SLAM 2018 will be housed in two buildings. Since no transportation is provided during summer school, this will help us ensure a smooth traffic flow process for our community. Lyon and Price will be the two sites used. Lyon will house all students who regularly attend Sweeny and Lyon, while Price will house all students who regularly attend Price, Schofield, and McCulloch. We will host a come and go style open house on Thursday, May 24 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at both Price and Lyon. Students are welcome to bring their school supplies to leave if they'd like. Details are below.Do you have before and after school care available for Summer SLAM?Before and after summer school care is available at both buildings through the STRIPES 360 program. Students attending SLAM that need childcare between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. can be enrolled. Parents are welcome to eat with their student(s). If joining your child, please stop by the front office to sign in and pay for your meal before heading to the cafeteria. The cost for an adult breakfast is $2.00 and lunch is $3.50. You will need to take your receipt to the cafeteria cashier.How does student drop off and pick-up work?The doors at both Price and Lyon will open at 7:45 a.m. Simply follow the below traffic maps to ensure student safety and to help our car lines move as quickly as possible. Each student will be given a name plate. Please make sure the person authorized to pick up your student has this name plate clearly displayed on the dash of the vehicle during pick-up.
Those attending the after school Tiger STRIPES program can be picked up any time after 3:10 p.m. in the building's cafeteria. The program's hours are 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
ALL Kindergarten Families:
All Kindergarten students AND SIBLINGS will be dismissed at 2:40 p.m. At this time, please plan to park in the front lot of Price or Lyon then enter the building and go to the gym to pick up your student(s). This is an effort to help improve the efficiency of the car line.

We feel this will help eliminate traffic congestion for our families and those traveling City streets during this time.

Your pick-up location/time is dependent on the youngest child you will be picking up. As a reminder, full bus routes are not offered during the summer. However, there is a bus that departs daily from RMS at 7:00 a.m. and transports students to RHS. The bus will return students to RMS after class is dismissed arriving at approximately 2:40 p.m. Those using the shuttle bus, please review the shuttle bus logistics section below.SHUTTLE BUS LOGISTICS:Please drop RHS students riding the shuttle off in front of RMS using the yellow arrows on the traffic map (FOUND HERE). Buses will use the first lane (closest to the building) and cars dropping off students will use the second lane.When picking up a student who is on a shuttle bus, please use lanes 1 and 2 per the yellow arrows on the traffic map (FOUND HERE).
