Makenzie Tyson 1 of 2 in Missouri to Attend Girls Nation
Over the summer, five RHS students were selected to attended Missouri Girls and Boys State, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary: Emily Epperson, Julia Higgins, Noah Kellett, Andrew Lawrence and Makenzie Tyson. Attendees become knowledgeable of the democratic process and how our government works at the state and national levels. A mythical state that is governed by the attendees is created, and various leaders in the Missouri government serve as guest speakers.
Out of the almost 500 girls in attendance at Girls State, Makenzie Tyson was selected as one of two "Senators" to represent Missouri at Girls Nation in Washington, D.C. During her July visit she was afforded the opportunity to tour the White House and meet Vice President Pence, have coffee and discuss legislation with Claire McCaskill, meet Roy Blunt, visit the Library of Congress where she got her library card, sat in on senate sessions and much more. Congratulations to Makenzie on this outstanding achievement! #repmoproud
