The Republic School District is #RepMOProud to share that Lyon Elementary has earned the prestigious Lighthouse Certification from Leader in Me. This accomplishment reflects the school’s dedication to fostering leadership, academic excellence and a culture of belonging through the district-wide Leader in Me initiative, a school improvement model developed by FranklinCovey.

Lighthouse Certification is a global standard of excellence for quality implementation of Leader In Me, recognizing results in Leadership, Culture, and Academics. Leader In Me is a comprehensive school improvement model designed to help educators, students, and families reach their greatest potential. Becoming a Lighthouse school is the natural outcome of successfully implementing the Leader In Me core process and is usually achieved within 3-5 years.

Lighthouse Certification is about helping schools get the results they desire from implementing Leader In Me. The greatest results are achieved when schools implement and integrate the paradigms and practices pertaining to Leadership, Culture, and Academics. Emphasizing one area while minimizing others produces less-than-optimal outcomes for all stakeholders.

Becoming a Lighthouse School is a way to honor and celebrate the developing community of life-ready leaders committed to maintaining sustainable systems for continuous improvement.

Goal: All lead teams involved in service learning projects

Our community engagement goal for the 2025-2026 school year is for every Lead Team to conduct a service learning project. Some examples of these service learning projects include:

  • Music Maestros - this Lead Team sings the National Anthem at every Lyon assembly. They also traveled to the Republic Senior Center and local nursing homes before Christmas to sing carols during the holiday season.

  • Office Partners - this Lead Team assists Lyon secretaries with various tasks around the office. They also chose to make dog toys and cat beds from recycled shirts and fabric. These items will be given to Republic Animal Control.

  • Dynamic Decorators - this Lead Team assists in decorating Lyon for holidays throughout the school year. They also delivered holiday decor to local nursing homes in December for their residents.

  • Morning Announcements - this Lead Team delivers the morning announcements to all Lyon students at the beginning of every school day. They also raised funds and coordinated a meal drop for the Republic Police Department and Republic Fire Department on Christmas Eve in order to show appreciation to those individuals working on holidays.

Lighthouse Reveal Assembly

Lyon students and families were notified of our newest achievement during our assembly in December 2025. Every student received a small lighthouse keychain to commemorate Lyon becoming a Lighthouse school. Watch the full highlight video of our reveal assembly below!
