Family and Consumer Science (FACS)
The Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) department employs a broad curriculum to empower the overall well-being of the family. The department views the family, in all its various forms, as the cornerstone of a healthy society and works to empower individuals and families across the lifespan to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse, global society. Our unique focus is on families, careers, and their interrelationships. Students gain real-world experience through our programs’ dedication to practical applications that further their world of work in these areas: Culinary Arts, Health and Nutrition, Child Development, Child Care, Interior design, Fashion Design, and Relationships.
Specific Course Information
Graduation Requirements: Students must complete 1 unit of practical arts credit to graduate.
Prerequisites:
Pro-Start- Successful completion of Health and Nutrition.
Pro- Start II- Grade C or higher in Pro Start I and the completion of a second cooking class is highly recommended.
Pastry- A grade of C or higher in Pro-Start I is highly recommended.
World Foods I- A grade of C or higher in Pro-Start I.
World Foods II- A grade of C or higher in World Foods I.
Fashion Design II- A grade of C or higher in Fashion Design I.
Toddler Education- Successful completion of Infant Education.
Child Care I- Infant Education and Toddler Education. Students are expected to provide their own transportation, and also must commit to attending the preschool lab hours on Monday/Wednesdays.
Child Care II- Child Care I. Students are expected to provide own transportation, and also must commit to attending the preschool lab hours on Monday- Thursday.
Baby Think It Over experience is a required element of Child Development.
