Candidate Resources
School board elections take place annually in April. Filing takes place in December of the previous year. Click here to access resources for candidates from the Missouri School Boards' Association provides multiple resources to candidates. Candidates should call specific attention to the requirements of placing their name on the ballot. The document named "A Candidate's Guide to Running for the School Board" lists these requirements.
Board members must:
Be citizens of the United States;
Be a resident taxpayer of the District;
Have resided within the District for the one year immediately preceding their election;
Be at least 24 years of age;
Not be delinquent in state income, or personal property tax or real property on their residence. If the Board member is a corporate officer of a fee office, that office can’t be delinquent on any state tax;
Not have been found guilty of or pled guilty to a felony under the federal laws of the United States of America, to a felony under Missouri law, or to an offense committed in another state which would be considered a felony in Missouri;
Not have been found guilty of or pled guilty for the offense of assault in the first or second degree under section 565.050 or 565.052 or of the offense of harassment in the first or second degree under section 565.090 or 565.091 where such assault or harassment occurred on school district grounds;
Not be a registered sex offender; and
Be in compliance with all Missouri Ethics Commission requirements.
