At the Board of Education meeting on January 15, members approved Dr. John Thompson as the next Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services for Republic School District.
As previously shared, Superintendent Dr. Matt Pearce will retire at the end of this school year, with Dr. Tyler Overstreet, current Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services, stepping into that role effective July 1. Dr. Thompson’s appointment fills the Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services position as part of this leadership transition.
Dr. Thompson currently serves as Principal of Republic High School, a role he has held since 2020. During his time in Republic Schools, he has demonstrated strong instructional leadership, a commitment to student learning and a collaborative approach to building systems that support staff and students across the district. In his new role, Dr. Thompson will oversee human resources and academic services, including curriculum, instruction, assessment and continuous improvement efforts aligned with the district’s mission.
“Dr. Thompson leads with relationships at the center of his work and is deeply committed to building a culture that supports strong teaching and learning,” said Dr. Overstreet. “He is a reflective, intentional and visionary leader who brings a strategic mindset to aligning people, systems and purpose. I am confident his leadership will strengthen our academic work as we build on the strong foundation already in place across our district.”
Dr. Thompson earned his Doctorate in Educational Administration from Lindenwood University and brings experience as an assistant principal, department head and classroom teacher. He is known for building positive, trust-centered cultures and designing clear, efficient processes that support consistent, high-quality outcomes.
“It is an honor and a blessing to serve our students, staff and the RepMO community,” Dr. Thompson said. “In this new role, I look forward to strengthening relationships and leading through service as we continue working together in support of student learning. We truly have the best students, families and employees working together to fulfill our mission of preparing each student for future excellence through a safe educational environment.”
With Dr. Thompson’s transition, the district will begin the search for the next Principal of Republic High School immediately. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available.
We are grateful for Dr. Thompson’s leadership at Republic High School and look forward to the continued impact he will have in this district-wide role.
