The Republic School District is proud to share that at its meeting on February 19, the Board of Education approved Dr. Eric Stephens as the next Principal of Republic High School.
Dr. Stephens has served as Associate Principal and Assistant Principal at RHS since 2017. Prior to moving into administration, he taught math at RHS from 2008 to 2017. He has also coached volleyball at both Republic High School and Republic Middle School. During his time in Republic, Dr. Stephens has served on numerous district committees focused on attendance, curriculum, the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan and Portrait of a Learner. He also leads graduate courses through a partnership with Evangel University that allows Republic teachers to earn a master’s degree in administration at no cost.
This transition follows recent district leadership announcements, as current RHS Principal Dr. John Thompson will move into the Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services role beginning July 1. That position becomes available as Superintendent Dr. Matt Pearce intends to retire at the end of this school year and current Assistant Superintendent Dr. Tyler Overstreet steps into the Superintendent role.
“Dr. Stephens is a dedicated leader who has contributed greatly to the culture and strengths of Republic High School,” said Dr. Overstreet. “His commitment to students, staff and continuous improvement makes him an excellent choice to lead RHS, and I am confident the school will continue to thrive under his leadership.”
Dr. Stephens holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master’s in Secondary Educational Administration from Missouri State University. He earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Missouri.
“It is an honor to step into the role of principal at Republic High School and continue serving a community that means so much to me,” Dr. Stephens said. “I am excited to work alongside our students, staff and families to build on the strong foundation already in place while continuing to create meaningful opportunities that prepare every student for future success.”
A servant leader, Dr. Stephens is passionate about creating meaningful learning opportunities that prepare each student for future excellence beyond graduation. He is committed to fostering a positive environment where students, families and staff feel engaged, connected and inspired. We look forward to his continued leadership at Republic High School.
The Republic School District will begin the search for a new RHS Assistant Principal immediately.
